Liverpool legend Dalglish says players should put club before country

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish says players should always put club before country.

King Kenny discusses the hot topic in the Sunday Mirror:

"Every time there is an international week, one issue keeps rearing its head.

"People talk about what should be the dominant part of a player's career: club or country.

"As far as I'm concerned, it should be the club.

"In fact, if England wants a successful national team, I believe clubs should command even more of a player's time, not less.

"When I was a club manager, it frustrated me how often the younger players went off to spend time with the Under-21s, Under-19s and Under-17s. Raheem Sterling has been fast tracked and could soon get an Under-21s call.

"If you're a club boss, the odds are you believe that the coaches you have are better than the coaches in the national youth set-up.

"If you don't believe that, then you should be doing something about it."
