Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has jumped to the defence of Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley.
Writing in the Mirror, Dalglish declared: "Social media can be put to good effect. I know that. It has its uses. This isn't one of them.
"It is easy to say Cleverley should have a thick skin but it's not just him who's affected by this. It's the people around him, too.
"If the boy has had a couple of bad games, so what? This kind of thing is totally and utterly unfair.
"He was an excellent player for Manchester United and England before it became fashionable to criticise him, and he will be an excellent player again.
"I hope he has the strength of character to turn the corner.
"We'll see what the people who have signed this petition have to say then.
"Not much, I imagine."
