Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is wanted by the British Labour Party.

The defender has close links with several MPs in the North West, including ex-Cabinet minister Andy Burnham, who was instrumental in getting justice for the Hillsborough victims.

A senior Labour source told the Daily Mail: "Jamie is a big Labour backer. Ed Miliband and the party are very keen to get him involved as someone who will endorse Labour in the run-up to the next general election."
