Liverpool legend Carra: The life lesson Giggs gave me in our first meeting...

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has revealed how Manchester United star Ryan Giggs offered him a life lesson on their first meeting.

Carra wrote in the Daily Mail: "It was December 6, 1997. David Elleray had just blown the final whistle to bring my first experience of a Liverpool-Manchester United clash to a miserable end.

"We had been beaten comfortably 3-1 at Anfield, I had been booked and, as I was only 19 at the time, I wanted to get back to the dressing room as quickly as I could. But, as I was making my way to the tunnel, Ryan Giggs stood in front of me.

"'Well done, Jamie,' he said, offering me his hand. He caught me by surprise. 'Well done, Jamie?'

"You might not think there was anything extraordinary about him saying my name but it stuck in my mind. Ryan didn't have to say anything but the fact he said my name was a big deal.

"I made sure as I got older that when I played against a young lad, or came up against newly- promoted teams, I'd do what Ryan did with me, shake hands and say their name. Not only is it a sign of respect, it shows you have an interest in the individual."
