Liverpool legend Barnes: Rodgers' team passing too much!

Liverpool legend John Barnes feels manager Brendan Rodgers needs to re-adjust his approach.

Barnes believes their problem lies in the final third, insisting they pass the ball too much before shooting.

“Liverpool is a work in progress,” he told the talkSPORT. “When you’re trying to implement a pattern, philosophy or method which the players may not necessarily be used to [it takes time]. If it works straight away, fine, but if it doesn’t you’ve got to give it time.

“The performances haven’t been bad. I think where Liverpool fall down is in the final third. They play from the back with good passing into midfield, they’re comfortable on the ball, it’s fantastic, they’re playing really well but in the final third that’s when they lose their way.

“If you remember at Swansea, in the final third you had two wide players and Danny Graham. They stayed in their positions and when the ball comes into the box Graham is there on the spot.

“Liverpool’s front three move around too much. Luis Suarez isn’t going to play in one position and I think in the final third they overplay it a little bit. They seem to be trying to play an extra pass in the box and one-twos.

“Apart from the final third they’re fine. They have to find a way of being more clinical.”
