Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged fans to be patient over their new manager search.
Barnes admits Kenny Dalglish's dismissal was a "shock".
"Well, it's been a bit of a shock because I would have expected Kenny to have stayed longer but obviously the owners have taken the decision to move in a different direction and I think this decision now really needs to be for the long-term," Barnes told liverpoolfc.tv.
"People always talk about long-term plans but I think now we have to believe in this decision, regardless of how well or badly we do in the short-term. If the club believes in a new philosophy then they need to stick with it. If it takes two, three or four years to fulfil the plan then we need to give the club time to realise it and make it happen."
