Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes Sir Alex Ferguson has been key to Manchester United's revival.
United and Liverpool finished all square yesterday at 1-1.
Aldridge wrote for the Sunday World: "Someone clearly took Mourinho aside a few weeks back and told him in no uncertain terms that he needed to change his ways if he was going to survive as United manager.
"Results were not going well in the first few weeks of the season and the grumpy attitude of Mourinho in press conferences and on the touchline was adding to the mood of misery at United.
"When Mourinho was quoted suggesting he was not happy living in his luxury hotel in Manchester, the only conclusion to be drawn was that he didn't want to be at United and was looking to get back to his London base as soon as possible.
"It would not surprise me if Alex Ferguson was the voice of reason who decided the moment had come to speak to Mourinho, because his change in attitude has been dramatic since late November and that has helped his players to start smiling on the pitch again."
