Liverpool legend Aldridge: Balotelli doesn't understand his role

Liverpool legend John Aldridge feels Mario Balotelli doesn't know how to play as a lone striker.

Aldridge questioned Brendan Rodgers' decision to stick with the controversial Italian when he is quite obviously struggling in front of goal.

He told talkSPORT: "For me - and I played most of my career leading the line as a lone striker - Balotelli looks out of place, he looks uncomfortable.

"He doesn't know where to run, or when to run, in that role.

"He's played a lot of his time in the hole behind the striker, as a number ten, or in the wide position, yet you see him leading the line for us and he's so frustrating because he's running offside and he's coming into wide areas, then we've got no one in the box.

"As a striker you've got to isolate your centre-backs, you've got to get on their shoulders, work them and peel off them and get in behind the back-four.

"You also create space for your team-mates with that movement, but Mario doesn't know what to do.

"So I'm a little bit baffled Brendan has persisted with that."
