Liverpool legend John Aldridge says victory over Arsenal was their best performance since 1988.

Aldridge wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "I can see why some people have drawn comparisons to the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest that I played in back in 1988. Forest were second in the table at the time and our biggest rivals for the title.

"That was a 90-minute performance but I'd say Saturday was all about the first half. With the points already secure, the second half was really just about keeping control.

"We were so comfortable that the manager was able to take off Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard. When have we ever been able to do that?"
