Liverpool legend Aldo: Gerrard would be ideal Rodgers No2

Liverpool legend John Aldridge would love to see Steven Gerrard become manager Brendan Rodgers' eventual No2. Aldridge wrote in the Sunday World: "He seems to have a great relationship with Stevie and the stories a few days back suggesting there had been a fall-out between manager and captain were quickly rubbished by both of them, but would Brendan want Stevie on his shoulder as an assistant manager or coach?

"Brendan shouldn't think his position is under threat, but the presence of a Liverpool legend like Gerrard on the coaching staff means the owners will have an easy option to turn to if Rodgers ever goes through a bad run, but what is not in doubt is there has to be an ongoing role for him at the club.

"I don't see Stevie going down the route of Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush and being an ambassador for Liverpool when he hangs up his boots. Stevie wouldn't want to be flying all over the world just to promote the club, he would want more from his life when he finishes playing."
