Liverpool keeper Jones: Gerrard carries us sometimes

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones believes skipper Steven Gerrard has to carry the club at times. The star midfielder was called on by manager Brendan Rodgers to try and spark the Reds in last night's 3-1 Capital One Cup loss to Swansea City but Australian gloveman Jones suggests it is these types of games where the other players in the squad should be doing the work.

"It is a difficult one. Stevie is an icon for the club and he carries the club sometimes," said Jones.

"Them (also Luis Suarez) coming on just gave us that spark, it made the other players pick up, the tempo was quicker and passing was crisper and we controlled the game better.

"Whether that was through them specifically or whether it was the other players upping it because the manager had basically had a go at us at half-time and sent them on.

"But it was the kick up the backside to let everyone know things weren't going well and we needed to get moving."
