Liverpool have joined the interest in Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.

This week, the Belgium international, 22, declared plans to leave Standard at the end of the season.

Witsel was watched by Manchester City coach Attilio Lombardo on the weekend.

And La Stampa says Liverpool and AC Milan were also represented at Standard's game with Lokeren.

Standard rate goal-scoring midfielder Witsel in the £12 million class.
