Liverpool have made contact with Fiorentina for Mario Gomez.

The Germany international's future with Fiorentina is clouded this summer, with AS Monaco launching talks over a move last weekend.

However, La Nazione says Liverpool are also in contact, with Gomez viewed as a replacement for Mario Balotelli.

Gomez famously turned down the Reds when with Bayern Munich, despite holding extensive talks about a move to Merseyside.

Liverpool are touting Balotelli around Europe in an effort to get him off the books.
