Liverpool icon Tommy Smith says the club MUST go for Europa League qualification.
In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Smith wrote: "There's a bit of a debate going on among some Liverpool fans as to whether we should want to make it into Europe next season.
"But for me anyone who doesn't want us there needs a kick up the backside!
"I understand the logic people use but I just don't buy into it.
"We are on a charge to catch Spurs and I believe we have got a really good chance of doing it if we keep this current form up.
"All right, the Europa League is not the Champions League but it is a significant trophy and at the start of every season there are only ever three or four cups any side can win.
"It is madness not to want to get into - and then try and win all competitions. Especially for a professional club like Liverpool which has won eight European trophies, not including Super Cups.
"Reaching a final and winning a trophy means everything to players and fans. I know getting back into the top four - and to the very top of the Premier League - is the target and the priority."
