Liverpool legend Steve McManaman says his old club needs to buy a top class striker in January.
The former Reds winger believes the acquisition of an experienced forward would provide Roy Hodgson's men with an added dimension heading into the second-half of the season.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Like every Liverpool fan I'd love a top, top centre forward to come in during January.
"It'd be great to see another ruthless striker up there alongside Fernando Torres. That would be frightening. You'd then have David Ngog playing back-up to them and continuing his development.
"In an ideal world I'd like to see Steven (Gerrard) playing just off them with a sitting central midfielder. That would add something to Liverpool's attack and give the manager more options.
"That's not to say David Ngog hasn't done very well recently. He's still a young lad and it's difficult to come in and be the lone centre forward for Liverpool at his age.
"He's getting better and is improving all the time. He's learning his position and I think the stronger he gets, and the more experience he gets will see him become a good asset for Liverpool."
