Liverpool icon Alan Hansen says Andy Carroll should not be considered for the U21 Euros.
Hansen has been shocked by suggestions the Liverpool No.9 could join Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere in the squad for this year's European U21 Championships and reckons it would be counter-productive to the Three Lions' long-term hopes of success with the senior side.
"Jack Wilshere has every chance of developing into English football's next superstar. Like Andy Carroll, the Arsenal player seems set to be a cornerstone of the England team for next year's European Championship, and for years to come," he told liverpoolfc.tv.
"It is mystifying what benefit Fabio Capello and Stuart Pearce seems to think either of them will gain by being deprived of a summer break.
"Instead, both the Italian and the former Manchester City manager are considering sending them to play in the European U21 Championship in Denmark in June."
