Liverpool icon Aldridge excited by Meireles progress

Liverpool icon John Aldridge is excited by the form of Raul Meireles after his performance in victory at Wolves.

Aldridge admits he was left in awe of Meireles's performance at Molineux and feels the 27-year-old has established himself as an integral component in Kenny Dalglish's side.

"Raul Meireles was outstanding, and while we always knew he was a good player, it's now when that is really starting to show," Aldo told liverpoolfc.tv.

"It looks so much more positive with the likes of the Portuguese lad supplying the front men as he did at Molineux.

"The role he played on Saturday, playing higher up the park, definitely suited him. He adapted well and his understanding with Poulsen and Lucas was good to see.

"Meireles' vision is excellent, he reminds me of a typical Liverpool player of the past. His form is an example of the players giving Kenny the ideal reaction since he has taken over.

"Meireles is a lot like Steven Gerrard, he can play well in both positions, either just behind the front man or a bit deeper.

"He's got a cracking shot on him, and the strike against Everton has given him a lot of confidence. The goal at Wolves will be one of the best goals we'll see all season."
