Liverpool legend John Aldridge was delighted to see Dirk Kuyt win a Carling Cup medal on Sunday.

Aldo wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "The Dutchman is a special kind of footballer, a selfless player in a selfish sport. His experience and attitude is huge in games like that, and so it proved.

"He will have been disappointed not to start the game, and probably a bit surprised too, but he didn't let it bother him one bit.

"His goal on Sunday never got the plaudits it deserved, because it was a really good striker's finish, and nobody deserves to be part of a winning side more than Dirk, for what he has given the club over the years."
