Liverpool hero Sammy Lee in shock Everton link

Liverpool hero Sammy Lee is being linked with a shock move to Everton.

The Liverpool Echo says Sam Allardyce is edging nearer to becoming the new Everton manager – and he could be about to bring Lee with him.

Talks were continuing on Tuesday night with both sides hopeful a deal can be agreed to bring Allardyce to Goodison.

The former England manager could even be named as new boss in time for this evening's Premier League clash at home to his old club West Ham United, although caretaker boss David Unsworth would remain in charge for the match.

Lee was Allardyce's assistant at Bolton Wanderers, England and, most recently, last season at Crystal Palace.

Lee came through the ranks at Liverpool in the late 1970s and played almost 300 games in a 10-year stint with the first team, before having two spells on the coaching staff at Anfield between 1992 and 2004 and later 2008 and 2011.
