Liverpool icon Gary McAllister is backing fellow Scot Charlie Adam for success at Anfield.
Just like McAllister, Adam is a Scottish midfielder with expertise at set-pieces, and the former Aston Villa assistant manager believes our new recruit is a player Reds fans will be able to rely on.
"At Aston Villa we tried to get Charlie because we identified him as someone who would offer us something we didn't have and someone who's a good age but could develop further," McAllister told LFC Weekly, just weeks after leaving Villa.
"We viewed him as a playmaker and a set-piece taker. He is someone you could hang your hat on - a general in midfield.
"Charlie's set-plays are as good as any. He's a passer of the ball too - someone who will vary the distance between long and short range. Liverpool have maybe lacked that variation over the last few seasons from deeper areas so I am certain the fans will appreciate him straight away. You only have to see the immediate impact he had on Blackpool after leaving Rangers to see that he's one that adapts to new surroundings quickly."
