Liverpool hero Didi Hamann has branded England's selection of Southampton youngster Luke Shaw as "madness".
Hamann says Chelsea icon Ashley Cole should be going to Brazil.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: "If something was to happen to Leighton Baines and you're in the last eight against Brazil, Argentina or Germany, would you rather have Luke Shaw at left-back, or Ashley Cole? "That's the question you've got to ask yourself, and for me it's a no-brainer.
"Cole should have been in the squad, not Shaw. It's madness.
"Hodgson said an injury to Baines would make the selection of Shaw a very bad one. So what does that mean? If Baines gets injured he doesn't trust Luke Shaw? So why take him?
"He's a terrific prospect, but that's all he is at the moment. I'm not saying he won't do a good job if he does play, but at the back you don't take chances."
