Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes captain Jordan Henderson looks up to Virgil van Dijk as a leader.
The Dutchman put in a herculean performance to keep Christian Benteke at bay in Monday night's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. And Aldridge thinks van Dijk is the Reds true captain.
"Van Dijk frustrated Benteke. He was all over him and didn't give him anything," Aldridge wrote in the Liverpool Echo.
"I've played against Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini and Paul McGrath, those type of players, who were immense at the time, so I can understand what Benteke would have been feeling.
"Van Dijk is a man-mountain. He's not even Liverpool's captain, but he IS the captain, if that makes sense.
"Jordan Henderson is a good captain, and James Milner a good vice-captain.
"But I'm sure Henderson looks up to Van Dijk and vice-versa. The manager has the best of both worlds there."
