Liverpool great Souness urges Pellegrini to bolster Man City midfield

Graeme Souness believes Manchester City will have to alter their game style if they want to beat CSKA Moscow this week.

The Premier League title-holders head to Russia for the third matchday of the Champions League on Tuesday and former Liverpool star Souness suggests that Manuel Pellegrini may need to look at playing less strikers and more midfielders if they are to record a much-needed victory.

'Manchester City have to go into this game with confidence - but I just hope the manager opts for more solidity in his midfield,' wrote Souness in his pre-game analysis for Sky Sports.

'They have been too easy to play against in the Champions League so far. Manuel Pellegrini needs to play one up front, strengthen his midfield and have a look at how the game is panning out.

'We've consistently seen Pellegrini play two strikers as well as (Jesus) Navas. That's great if you're bossing a game, but until you get yourself into that position he doesn't do enough in terms of working as a proper midfield player.

'They have got to win both of their games against CSKA Moscow, so they have to go there and win on Tuesday evening.'

City currently sit third in Group E with just one point from their two fixtures which have included a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich and a 1-1 draw with Roma.
