Liverpool great Fowler: Even at 15 Sturridge had everything!

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has spoken highly of current day Anfield striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 38-year old former Reds and England ace trained alongside Sturridge when the now-24-year old was just a teenager in the Manchester City youth academy back in 2004.

Fowler's spell at Eastlands - between 2003 and 2006 - coincided with Sturridge's development towards senior football and the sixth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history admitted he saw something special in the present day Anfield star even from those early days.

"I was lucky enough to train with Daniel when I was at Manchester City," Fowler told the Liverpool Echo.

"You could see even at the age of 15 that he had everything.

"He used to embarrass some of the older players in the squad with his skill. He was so confident. I always knew he would go on to become a special player.

"I see all the qualities an international striker needs. I have been really impressed by Daniel. There was a lot of pressure on him when he came to Liverpool.

"He has had a few blips along the way but thankfully he has found his place at Liverpool and is setting the world alight. He's a phenomenal player."

After his spell with Man City, Sturridge left Eastlands to join Chelsea in July 2009 during which time he enjoyed a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers.

Sturridge struggled for regular game time at Stamford Bridge which prompted a January 2013 transfer to Liverpool where he has starred ever since, scoring 28 Premier League goals in 34 outings, for a total of 32 in all competitions for the Merseyside club.
