Liverpool great Dalglish praises Arsenal boss: 'I don't understand the problem with Wenger'

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish cannot understand why Arsene Wenger receives constant criticism.

The Arsenal manager is a continual target for detractors who decide to jump on his back at every opportunity when the chips are down at the Emirates Stadium.

When assessing this weekend's clash between Wenger's Arsenal and Jose Mourinho's Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Dalglish admitted he could not predict the score but is fairly certain there will be some more unwarranted negativity for Wenger who has been at the helm of the north London club since 1996.

'I can't predict the result of the match, but I can predict the outcome: Someone will have a go at Arsene Wenger,' wrote Dalglish in his column for The Mirror.

'That's because, whatever happens, there seems to be a fresh criticism or a new accusation aimed at the Arsenal manager every week.

'He's spent too much money on players.

'He hasn't spent enough money on players.

'He shouldn't be playing Aaron Ramsey.

'He shouldn't be playing Mesut Ozil.

'He doesn't win enough trophies.

'It's not enough that Wenger's team have qualified for the ¬Champions League 17 times on the spin.

'You know what? I look at Arsenal and Wenger and I really don't see what the problem is. I don't understand why he gets all this criticism. I don't understand why one defeat is used as a reason to question his position.'

Dalglish added: 'I look at Arsenal and I see a team making progress.

'Win, lose or draw tomorrow, Wenger's ability to encourage that progress won't change.'
