Liverpool great Jamie Carragher believes John Terry is the best defender in the Premier League after he captained Chelsea to his fourth Premier League title.

Terry has played every minute of every game this season and was a major part in helping the Blues reclaim the trophy for the first time in five years.

"He's never had that pace - I wouldn't say he's better now, but his understanding of the game and reading of the game has come on," Carragher said to Sky Sports.

"Also Mourinho, for John Terry, is the perfect manager. The way he sets his teams up - he has (David) Azpilicueta there, who's not the most adventurous of full-backs, he has (Nemanja) Matic in front of him.

"He needs that sort of protection because of his lack of mobility, but he makes up for it in other areas. He's been the best defender by a mile in this league."
