Liverpool furious over timing of Chelsea Cup tie

Liverpool are furious with the timing of their Carling Cup quarterfinal draw with Chelsea.

Kenny Dalglish's men have been ordered to travel to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, November 29 - just 48 hours after their crunch clash with Premier League leaders Manchester City at Anfield, says the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds were told the tie couldn't take place on the Wednesday because Spurs are hosting PAOK Salonika in the Europa League and there is also major strike action scheduled.

The Metropolitan Police wouldn't allow any other high profile games to take place in the capital that night.

In response Liverpool made a request to the Football League to have their quarter-final delayed until the date reserved for the first leg of the semi-finals in early January.

However, that was rejected with the club told that league officials feared holding over a last eight game until then could lead to fixture congestion ahead of the final at Wembley on February 26.
