Liverpool fullback Jose Enrique has rejected a return to Newcastle United.

The Mirror says Enrique was offered a deal until the end of the season at St James' Park, but told his former club he wanted a longer deal.

And he turned his back on a move by joining Liverpool training at their Melwood complex last night, cutting short celebrations amongst Koppites that he could finally be on his way.

The Spaniard earns an eye-watering £65,000 a week and is due more than £1.5m for the remaining months on his contract, and he has indicated he is determined to sit it out and pick up that pay packet before finding another club at the end of the season when his contract is up.
