Liverpool fullback Flanagan pushing for Burnley recall

Jon Flanagan hopes to force his way into Burnley's starting XI.

The Liverpool fullback is on-loan this season at Turf Moor.

Flanagan, who isn't eligible to feature against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, has only had nine outings for the Clarets with Sean Dyche preferring Matt Lowton at right-back.

“Obviously, I would have liked to have played more but that's football," he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I got in the team around Christmas and felt things were going well but unfortunately I got a knock in training which kept me out for a week or so. It gave someone else a chance which they took.

Sean Dyche is a loyal manager and with the team doing well it's been quite settled. I've had to be patient.

“From that point of view, it hasn't gone quite to plan for me but I do feel that over the course of the season I've really got my fitness back.

“Barring that minor knock I got just before Christmas, I've not missed a training session all season and I'm feeling fitter and stronger than I have done for years.

“Hopefully I can force my way into the team and get a run in the side between now and the end of the season before going back to Liverpool. I'm working hard and doing everything I can to make that happen."
