Liverpool fullback Enrique: Family convinced me to stay with Newcastle
Liverpool fullback Jose Enrique admits he wanted out of England after his first season with Newcastle United.
The Spaniard is now regarded by many as the signing of the season.
"After my first season I wanted to go back home,” defender Enrique told the Daily Express. “The truth – and no one knows this – is that Newcastle wanted to sell me as well. I had talks with Real Betis.
“But my brother Salva, who is also my agent, sat me down and said, ‘Jose, you have the qualities to play in England. This is the best league in the world’. My girlfriend Eva also told me it was better to stay.
“I am lucky with her. Some players don’t want to come to England because of the weather and things like that. But she said, ‘We have to stay here and you have to try’.

“When I understood this, I started to play well. It was good advice.”

I think it's also good of Newcastle to stick by Jose after his first season, after all of his horrendous performances. It's good of Newcastle to carry on paying your ridiculously high wages, even when we were in the Championship. It's good of Newcastle's Chris Hughton & Alan Pardew to turn Jose into the player he is today, & not try to block a move to a 'big' club.
But no appreciation for Newcastle, Jose? No thanks or gratitude or even respect for everything we did for you?
Hope you can live with that. Hope you can look yourself in the mirror when you're an old man without feeling disgusted...
