Liverpool's former Real Madrid fullback Alvaro Arbeloa wants to stick it to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Arbeloa is hoping that the Merseyside club meet Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals so they can "take them down a peg or two".

Barcelona, who face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, are on course for a treble of La Liga, Spanish Cup and Champions League and, as a former Real Madrid player, Arbeloa is motivated to derail the Catalan giants.

"We're waiting to see if we meet Barcelona to see if we take them down a peg or two," Arbeloa said. "It's not going to be easy, but first we have to beat Chelsea."
