Liverpool forced to rethink stadium plans

Liverpool may be forced to rethink plans for their new stadium because of the crash in the American money markets, says The Sun.

The Reds unveiled designs for a new, 60,000-capacity venue on Stanley Park - just a stone's throw from Anfield - during their pre-season trip to Hong Kong.

But the economic situation in the States has meant a hike in the cost of development and the project is now likely to cost more than £400m.

Now co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks are set to order a re-design, to bring the price back down to little more than half that figure.

The stadium would remain with the same capacity, on the same site but would be a little less hi-tech.
