Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is targeting a Bosman move for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.
Rodgers is seeking a long-term replacement for Andy Carroll, who joined West Ham United on-loan last Friday.
Llorente is inside the final 12 months of his existing deal and so far baulked at Bilbao's attempts to open talks over a new contract.
The centre-forward can sign a pre-contract with a foreign from January 1 and a Bosman deal for such a high quality would suit Liverpool's new prudent approach.
