A late Tim Cahill header earned Everton a deserved point against a less than convincing Liverpool at Anfield. Steven Gerrard's 68th minute strike seemed to be sending Liverpool back to the top of the Premiership until the Reds disappointing home form continued as they allowed Tim Cahill to head home a Mikel Arteta free kick with three minutes remaining.

The Reds now lie second in the league, level on points with Manchester United, but with an inferior goal difference.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez admitted to Setanta Sports1 it was a disappointing result.

"When you are top of the table and leading with three minutes to go then you have lost two points.

"We controlled the second half especially, had all the possession but then at the end there was a little anxiety and then the disappointment of conceding with three minutes to go."

The Spanish tactician refused to accept this was a blow to Liverpool's title hopes.

"It is important to keep in touch at this level so we are pleased to still be there but disappointed with the result."

Everton are now unbeaten in six games and boss David Moyes felt it was a deserved point, telling Setanta Sports1, "It was only a point but with two or three minutes remaining it didn't look likely.

"So it was a good point for us and one we deserved. We kept at it, tried to make it difficult for Liverpool and got our rewards.

"Disappointed with losing the goal on the counter attack as we were still complaining about the penalty kick, but overall pleased with the player's performance."
