Liverpool face Benitez competition for Celtic fullback Kieran Tierney

Liverpool have joined the battle for Celtic fullback Kieran Tierney.

The Daily Star says Liverpool are set to face a battle to sign Tierney from their Champions League-winning manager Rafael Benitez.

The left full-back berth has long been a problem position at Anfield and for most of this season, Jurgen Klopp has deployed midfielder James Milner there in an auxiliary role as doubts persist over Alberto Moreno.

The Reds have been tracking Tierney's progress at Parkhead along with Arsenal but now that Newcastle United's promotion back to the Premier League has been secured, Benitez – who wants a £100million transfer war chest to bolster the Magpies ranks – has entered the race.
