Liverpool are planning to prise Victor Obinna away from West Ham United.
Milan media sources say Liverpool want to buy the Nigeria international at the end of the season.
Obinna is currently on a season-long loan at the Hammers.
Obinna would fit the criteria of the Liverpool's new American owners who are keen to recruit young players who would have a re-sale value to Anfield.
At international level, Obinna has scored seven goals and was also in Nigeria's squad for the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
