Liverpool are battling Chelsea for Benfica winger Lazar Markovic. The People says title-chasing Liverpool are bidding to beat Chelsea in the £20million chase for Serbian superstar Markovic.

Markovic has been on the Kop radar since he was a kid, but Rodgers faces a battle to land the 20-year-old who has been a big hit at Benfica since joining from Partizan Belgrade.

Chelsea have been on Markovic's trail for years and rumours are rife in Serbia that they have already set up a move.

But Liverpool think he is the ideal type of player for them as they plan ahead for next season.
