Liverpool ease past Lille in Europa League

Liverpool have turned a 1-0 first leg deficit into a 3-1 aggregate win to push through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The Reds overcame a sluggish first leg performance against French club Lille to ease into the final eight with a 3-0 home win.

Skipper Steven Gerrard made it 1-1 in the overall scheme of things when he fired home from the penalty spot in the 9th minute after Lucas Leiva was fouled in the area.

Four minutes after the break, star striker Fernando Torres backed up his double in the league on Monday with an expert finish past Lille keeper Mickael Landreau.

The Reds experienced some nervy moments in the second half but were strong enough to hang on and even got a third goal when Torres got his second a minute before time, following up a Gerrard shot to tuck away neatly.

The win seemingly has Liverpool's season back on track in a way and still gives them hope of holding aloft some silverware this term.
