Liverpool are looking to offer Mamadou Sakho a new contract.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has indicated that he wants to keep the French centre-back at Anfield despite the 25-year-old having made just 34 Premier League appearances since arriving in the summer of 2013.
Sakho was heavily linked with a summer departure to AS Roma but ahead of his first start of the new season in the Europa League against Bordeaux on Thursday, Rodgers suggests he wants the former Paris Saint-Germain defender to stay put on Merseyside.
"Mama is a player we want to keep," he said.
"It was a difficult start for him, like all the players.
"We won the first few games so it was difficult for him to get in the team.
"After the international break he was always going to be needed.
"He will start (against Bordeaux) and we want to extend his contract."
