Liverpool eager to flow on from last season - Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool's main aim in the next campaign is to continue their improvement from last season.

The Reds recovered from poor early-season results to eventually finish seventh in Rodgers' debut season as Anfield manager and the Northern Irishman simply wants the Merseyside outfit to keep progressing as the new season approaches.

"For us that's the challenge for this coming season. Last year we showed that the early months were difficult because of the fitness of the squad and a new manager coming in," he said at a press conference in Melbourne on Monday.

"I was trying to implement my ideas but as the season went on we got stronger. In the second half of the season the form was really, really good.

"It's just about trying to maintain that momentum for the new season and of course that momentum can push us up toward the top four. We really only got to grips in the second half of the season but that gave a lot of hope and a lot of encouragement and we will look to do that again this season."
