Liverpool director Ayre had faith 'King Kenny' would be back

Liverpool director Ian Ayre had a feeling that Kenny Dalglish would return to club in some capacity after he was sacked as manager recently.

The Scotsman was in his second tenure in charge at Anfield when he lost his job to Brendan Rodgers 18 months ago but Ayre knew that 'King Kenny', now a non-executive director, would be back helping the Reds before too long.

"I never had any doubt that Kenny would come back at some point," Ayre told reporters.

"But it was just about getting the timing right and the role right and I think we've done fantastically well on both fronts.

"We were always conscious that he would come back. Kenny is part of the furniture at Liverpool. We are like one big family. Kenny will always be part of the Liverpool family and rightly so.

"He understands the fans. He understands the club. He understands what makes it tick and for that reason he should be part of it and I'm very pleased to have him back."
