Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was named best afield for defeat to Borussia Dortmund yesterday thanks to his age!

The Liverpool Echo says Christian Pulisic earned the vote of the International Champions Cup broadcasters after scoring two and creating the third, but the 19-year-old attacker couldn't receive the accolade as it was sponsored by brewers Heineken.

You have to be 21 to drink alcohol in North Carolina so Van Dijk was called up for the presentation instead.

The Dutchman didn't put a foot wrong during the first half and opened the scoring with an emphatic header from Andy Robertson's cross.

“There are a lot of things we need to improve," Van Dijk told Liverpoolfc.com

“It's pre-season and we have worked hard to improve other aspects of our game so it's bit of a pity that we lose in the last five minutes of the game."
