Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is targeting a December playing return.

The Sunday Mirror says the 22-year-old is hoping to return to action in December after 18 months out with a knee injury and has been using boxing sessions with Jordan Henderson as part of his road back to fitness.

Flanagan is eager to make an impression quickly, with his current deal up at the end of the season.

The full-back established himself as a regular starter for Liverpool in the 2013-14 campaign before being called up to the England squad.

Flanagan underwent corrective surgery on his knee but required a second operation in April when a new problem was discovered.
