Liverpool could be without Jamie Carragher for six weeks after he suffered a dislocated shoulder injury in defeat at Tottenham.
Carragher will be out for four to six weeks if the injury requires no surgery but it could be three months if he needs an operation to pin the shoulder.
"It's a serious injury," admitted Reds boss Roy Hodgson. "We will miss his leadership skills.
"We've got Agger still injured and we're not overly blessed with centre halves. The injury to Steven Gerrard came at the wrong time. Steven is making big strides but Agger is a long-term matter. Now Jamie.
"Other teams will have more problems but unfortunately ours are coming in the same position."
