Liverpool co-owner Gillett puts Benitez at ease

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett says Rafael Benitez's job as manager is not under threat.

Despite four straight losses, Gillett along with partner Tom Hicks, has ensured the Spaniard that his position is safe and that the club as a whole needs to bounce back and climb out of this current rut.

"Our support for Rafa is absolutely in place. We have just entered into a long term agreement with him, and we are extraordinarily pleased with him," Gillett said after the midweek Champions League loss to Lyon.

"We have just extended Rafa's contract, and my family think he is absolutely as good as there is in the business and I am sure the Hicks' feel the same way.

"Yes, the run of results disappoints everybody. Certainly, it disappoints the fans and it disappoints Rafa. I have seen his television interview and I know he is disappointed. We are all disappointed, but we are in this together.

"As owners, the thing we can do to help improve things is to be supportive to the manager - which I am and which Tom is."
