Liverpool chief: We're right on Gerrard, England

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry says the Reds are right to insist that Steven Gerrard does not play for England against Germany on Wednesday.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard fractured a toe against Toulouse in midweek but started against Chelsea on Sunday.

However, the club then want him to rest to avoid aggravating the injury - so are demanding he is not picked by England coach Steve McClaren for Wednesday's friendly international against Germany.

And Liverpool's chief executive, Rick Parry, has no qualms about encouraging Gerrard to put his club before the country.

"It's the sort of injury that is going to need careful nursing and rest," Parry told BBC Radio Five Live.

"If we had two games in a week, we'd be looking to rest him in one of them."

He added: "Our focus is Liverpool, getting the right results and winning trophies for Liverpool."
