Liverpool chief rules out Owen return

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has ruled out Michael Owen rejoining the club before the end of the month.

Owen's future at Newcastle has been the subject of speculation this summer after reports the striker had a £9million release clause in his contract.

Liverpool were rumoured to be possible suitors of the England international.

However, Parry says Owen will definitely not be moving to Anfield this summer and is unlikely to return to The Reds anytime soon.

"Certainly not in this transfer window and I very much doubt in the next one," Parry told BBC Radio Five Live.

Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell has been ruled out of England's squad to face Germany at Wembley on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old had won his first international call-up since Steve McClaren replaced Sven Goran Eriksson at the helm.

However, Portsmouth chief Harry Redknapp confirmed after Saturday's win against Bolton that the classy veteran had not sufficiently recovered from a groin injury to take part in midweek.
