Liverpool chief Dalglish cancels South Africa trip for player talks

Liverpool chief Kenny Dalglish will not be meeting with senior players in South Africa.

The News of the World says both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres will be seeking assurances after the World Cup. The duo became disillusioned last season and although their future wasn't exclusively linked to Rafa Benitez's position, there is no question his departure will help rather than hinder efforts to keep them on Merseyside.

There will be no attempt by the club to liaise with their captain on the manager's job during the World Cup, especially as he's made it clear he wants to focus solely on leading his country.

Dalglish has cancelled plans to go to South Africa, although they were made before Benitez's departure.
