Liverpool chief Ian Ayre expects more signings to follow Chelsea striker Danny Sturridge. Ayre will now focus on further strengthening Liverpool's squad this month.
And he said: "Daniel is somebody Brendan identified in the summer, but it just wasn't the right deal.
"Sometimes it's right to wait, whether it's Daniel or anyone else, and the same will apply through this transfer window.
"If the right opportunities present themselves for the right player at the right time, then we'll do that business - but if it's not the right deal or the right player, it won't get done.
"We'll always do what's best for the long-term interests of the club and we'll always aim to improve the group - and I'm sure we'll do that this January."
