Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is chasing Sunderland wing-back Danny Rose.
The People says Rose is on a season-long loan at Sunderland from Tottenham, but the agreement has a mid-season break clause which could see him return to White Hart Lane, or be sold in the New Year window.
Kop chief Rodgers is desperate to sign a left-back as he is not a fan of Spanish star Jose Enrique, who has been operating in left midfield and would be sold if Liverpool could find a buyer.
And Rose, who was at the centre of the England U21 race storm in Serbia in October, has impressed the Anfield chief with a succession of fine displays for Sunderland this season.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will demand a premium fee for the 22-year-old, believed to be around £5million.
